Woman held for making offensive statement against Johor Sultan

Johor Police Chief, Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said Johor police had received a report on the incident at about 12.30 pm on April 9.
A woman was detained last night after uploading an offensive statement against the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar and the Johor royal institution via the Facebook application.
Johor Police Chief, Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said Johor police had received a report on the incident at about 12.30 pm on April 9.
"Acting on the report, an investigation paper was opened to carry out further investigation and trace the individual believed to have uploaded the offensive statement.
"As a result, at 11.30 pm last night, police detained a 48-year-old woman in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur who is believed to be the individual responsible for uploading the offensive statement," he said in a statement, here today.
He said the businesswoman was now being remanded until April 14 to assist investigation under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
He said the Johor police would never compromise and would take stern action against anyone found to have abused the social website by issuing false statements, offending, abusing, threatening and disturbing others.
