The Foreign Affairs Ministry has been informed that two Malaysians working at the Amenas Facility in Southern Algeria were held hostage together with other nationalities on Wednesday.
A statement by Wisma Putra revealed that the ministry is in contact with family members of the Malaysians as well as the branch office of the company based in Singapore.
“At the same time the Malaysian Embassy in Algeria has sought the assistance of the Algerian Foreign Ministry to assist in determining whether there are other Malaysians involved in the incident as well as seeking the assistance of the Algerian government to ensure the safety and release of the Malaysians.”

Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman has also been contact with his counterpart Mourad Medelci of Algeria.

"The Government of Malaysia will do its utmost in the effort to secure the release of the Malaysians taken hostage in Southern Algeria." the statement added.
