The widow of the late Kuala Besut assemblyman Dr A. Rahman Mokhtar hopes that Barisan Nasional (BN) will win big in the by-election.

Azizah N. Omar, 53 wanted candidate Tengku Zaihan Che Ku Abd Rahman to continue her late husband’s legacy for Kuala Besut. She was even willing to help Tengku Zaihai to ensure that BN retains the Kuala Besut seat.

“Tengku Zaihan and his wife has met me and informed about their willingness to continue my husband’s trust. I will try my best to help them so that BN can win with a bigger majority from the last general election,” said Azizah during a visit by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to her home yesterday.

She added that the late Dr A.Rahman never grew tired in helping the folks of Kuala Besut, that he ignored his own health.

“My late husband was very secretive to a point that he didn’t share about his condition with me or his own mother. Due to his commitment to the people, even the house renovation works were delayed,” she said.

Dr. A Rahman was a well-know local guy from Pulau Perhentian, who had opened a clinic here. For the past 18 years, the clinic operated along Jalan Semarak at the Kuala Besut town.

The late assemblyman mother Mek Embong Awang Kecil, 81 also stayed with him Despite the hectic schedule with the state government, his mother said that Dr. A. Rahman was a loving family man.

For Azizah, recalling his last speech at Pulau Perhentian after winning in the general election, where Dr A. Rahman said it would the last time, he would be with the people, still breaks her heart.

“No one knew what he meant and the people still wanted him to come as often. But he never wanted to impose on anyone or cause them grief,” she said.

His condition was not made known to the Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said as Dr. A. Rahman showed no signs of being ill while attending the state meetings.

“I am very grateful for this visit by the Deputy Prime Minister, Menteri Besar to our home during fasting month,” said Azizah.

Dr A.Rahman Mokhtar passed away at the Hospital Sultanah Zahirah, Kuala Terengganu due to lung complications.

He leaves behind wife Azizah N. Omar and four children Mohd Zaihan, 30, Mohd Razhan, 28, Mohd Zafuan, 27 and Nurul Najihah, 21.
