The use of nuclear energy is seen as a danger for the people apart from it being the least used source of energy worldwide, says Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) secretary-general, S. Arutchelvan.
PSM said he wants Malaysia to remain free from the use of nuclear energy.
“We want Malaysia to be free of nuclear as it will endanger people's lives. Nuclear is a dangerous and toxic form of energy. It is also a form of energy which is least used in the world and high in costs and risks,” said Arutchelvan.
Arutchelvan, also known as Arul said this to the media after a protest held by PSM at the Malaysian Nuclear Agency at 11am on Tuesday.
The protest titled, ‘Flash Mob Tidur Bantah Nuklear’ is aimed at objecting the proposal of constructing nuclear power plants in the country.
As many as 15 people carrying several placards with the anti-radiation symbol joined in the protest held in conjunction with Earth Day tomorrow.

Soon after the protest, Arul surrendered a press statement entitled “Malaysia Bebas Nuklear” (Malaysia Free of Nuclear) to one of the officers at the Malaysian Nuclear Agency.
It was a sight to behold as protesters laid down at the entrance of the agency as protesters held placards boasting slogans that read, "no nukes, go solar".
Sputnik News on April 13 reported that Rosatom -- the Russian Nuclear corporation -- was preparing its bid to develop the first nuclear power plant in Malaysia.
Its deputy director, Kirill Komarov said Russia was ready to take part in the tender although Moscow and Kuala Lumpur has yet to sign a nuclear agreement.
He said Moscow was offering its cooperation in building nuclear reactor power plants to countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam.
