Wanita UMNO head Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil reminded members of the movement to undertake a mentality shift and get out of their comfort zone.

She said Wanita UMNO must have more programmes with Wanita Barisan Nasional (BN) because its struggle was not only for the Malay women but also for all women in the country.

"The Wanita Umno cause transcends race and religion. Although we have an agenda for Malay women, generally our struggle is for everyone," she said when winding up the debate on the motion at the Wanita UMNO General Assembly 2013 at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC), Wednesday.

She called on Wanita UMNO to build its inner strength and should always be surrounded by intellectuals to improve the movement.

"Don't be afraid of your own shadow, although you may not have any academic degree, you are not just ordinary leaders. If we are surrounded by those who are inferior to us, how can we improve ourselves.

"We must be surrounded by intellectuals who are more skilled than we are, only then can we be great, don't be afraid," she said to loud applause from the 955 delegates present.

Meanwhile at a media conference, Shahrizat said that for this term, the movement would focus on the women's economic development as its main agenda.

She said this was important in efforts to churn out more women entrepreneurs besides helping single mothers who needed aid to achieve success.

In addition, she said religious programmes for the movement would be intensified with various approaches that would lead to better efficiency in line with the global demand.
