Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) will be officially acknowledged as a Green World 2016/2017 ambassador tomorrow in London.
This recognition is by virtue of the university's achievement in clinching the Gold medal at the Green World Awards 2016, For Education and Training at Bucheon, South Korea, recently.
As a global gold winner, UUM also received the Green Apple trophy, certificate and logo.
Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah in his speech text while launching the university's convocation fest last night, said graduates should equip themselves with personality skill and knowledge.
The qualities, he said, would prepare them to inherit the country's leadership in future.
He described graduates as assets to steer religion, race and country towards glory.
"The rise and fall of our society lay with you," he said, adding, graduates must become agents of change, knowledge and idea generators as well as advocators of social justice besides having an open mind.
He said intellectual maturity and professionalism and an innovative attitude should be present in every graduate.
Meanwhile, UUM Vice Chancellor Prof Datuk Seri Dr Mohamed Mustafa Ishak urged UUM graduates to look at knowledge as a bridge to endear themselves to Allah SWT.
"Look into yourselves and build up your character and personality because we are not only assessed for our degree scroll. Besides humbling oneself before Allah, great character and personality are very important values in life," he said.
Prof Mohamed said UUM had produced more than 123,000 graduates, of which 81 per cent managed to obtain employment.
This, he said, proved that the quality of UUM graduates was recognised by the industries. -- BERNAMA
