Utusan photographer receives recognition from Malaysia Book of Records

Utusan Malaysia photographer Mohd Noor Mat Amin, 49, was accorded recognition by the Malaysia Book of Records as the world's first photographer to successfully develop colour films manually at Everest Base Camp.

Mohd Noor received the certificate of recognition from Malaysia Book of Records, operations director Christoper Wong at the Utusan Lensa Rencam Award ceremony held at Utusan Malaysia headquarters, here Monday.

Mohd Noor, better known as Mr Solo, processed the films manually at an altitude of 5,330 metres above sea level when he was one of the 'Malaysia-Everest Project 97' participants from March 1 to June 3, 1997.

Mohd Noor told Bernama the delay in getting the recognition from the Malaysia Book of Records was because it took a long time to confirm that he was the first photographer to achieve this feat.

He added that he had not sent his entry to Guinness World of Records though he had been accorded this recognition as the cost to send in the entry was too high.
