UPP Kedah foiled smuggling attempt of cannabis worth RM245,000

Kedah Anti-smuggling Unit (UPP)foiled an attempt to smuggled cannabis from Thailand weighing 96.56 kilograms worth RM245,000 here, on Wednesday.
Commander Abdul Latif Abd Rahman said the drugs were discovered in a Proton Wira car of a 19-year-old suspect at 9 pm last night when making an inspection at kilometer 1.3 North-South highway.
He said the drugs were believed were meant for this country and the case would be investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1957.
Police are trying to locate a man known as Faridzuan Yazet, 19, from Pendang for further investigation, and the public who has information on Norizdhan can contact Kubang Pasu IPD at 04-9176999/ 2222 or any nearest police station.
In another development, Abdul Latif said his team had also seized various fake branded clothes and Indonesian batik worth thousands of ringgit at kilometer 35 Jalan Kota Putra, Padang Sanai about 1.30pm on Friday and arrested two men aged 29 and 42, with their lorries.
The case would be investigated under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967 which carries a fine of not less than 10 times and not more than 20 times the value of customs duties or a jail term of not more than five years or both.
