UiTM student sues Dungun hospital director, two others.
A Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) public administration student has sued the Dungun Hospital director and two others for causing her to lose the sight of one eye.
Nur Laila Md Yusof, 21, filed the writ of summons at the Sessions Court Registrar's Office on Friday, through Messrs T. Vijay & Co.
The second of three siblings arrived at the Court Complex in Jalan Duta here, accompanied by her parents and lawyer, T. Vijayandran.
Nur Laila named the hospital's director as the first defendant, and Dr Tan Kian Kheng and the government, as the second and third defendant, respectively.
In her statement of claim, Nur Laila who is studying at the UiTM's branch in Dungun, said on Nov 13, she went to the hospital to seek treatment for her fever.
She claimed that she was attended to by Dr Tan and given six types of medication including T Amoxycillin, Syp Benadryl, CMC eye and Hydrocortisone cream, and on the same day returned to her parents' home in Kuang, Rawang.
Her health deteriorated and her temperature shot upwards, while red rashes appeared on her skin, such as in chicken pox.
Her skin condition worsened and on Nov 18, last year, she went to Sungai Buloh Hospital, which found that she had Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis, a reaction to the antibiotic Amoxycillin, allegedly prescribed by Dr Tan.
The allergic reaction badly affected the function of both her eyes, that the right one had to be removed, she claimed.
Nur Laila is claiming interests, costs and other relief deemed fit by the court, without stating any amount.
Her father, Md Yusof Abd Kadir told reporters when met, that his daughter had to temporarily cease her studies because of her impaired sight and would be going to Serdang Hospital next week for followup treatment.
