A two-year-old girl died after a 29-inch television fell on top of her at the PT Palm Oil Mill quarters at Mile 7, Jalan Changka Jong, Teluk Intan, Tuesday night.

Hilir Perak police chief ACP Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said the victim, Siti Norain Maisarah Romli, was sleeping with her mother in the living room of the quarters prior to the 11.15pm incident.

"The girl's father was in the master bedroom when he heard a loud crashing sound. He then rushed out to find the television had fallen on top of his daughter who was next to his wife," he said when contacted, Wednesday.

He said the parents rushed her to the Teluk Intan Hospital for treatment, but she was motionless upon arrival at the emergency department.

The hospital confirmed that the girl, who was the youngest of five siblings, had died, he said.

Mohd Shuhaily said the television's weight was about 33 kilogrammes.

"Our investigation found that the bottom part of the television cabinet had rotted and a plank was used over it. Furthermore, the floor in the living room was uneven," he said.

He added that the post-mortem showed the victim had died of severe injuries to the head.

"Inspection on the child's body also did not show any signs of abuse," he said.
