Three men have been arrested to facilitate the investigation on the RM2.2 million cash-in-transit van robbery at Jalan 222 in Petaling Jaya on Wednesday.
Selangor CID chief, SAC Mohd Adnan Abdullah said the trio – the security van driver and two security guards aged between 24 and 31 - were arrested at 4.30pm after their statements were taken by police at Petaling Jaya district police headquarters yesterday.
“There were discrepancies in their statements. We need their cooperation to further help us in the investigation,” said Mohd Adnan.
“We also seized the CCTV recording at the location and we are going to investigate if the incident was actually an ‘inside job’. It will include whether there was violation of standard operating procedure (SOP) by the security officers,” he said.
None of three detained have any criminal record while one of the security guards was hired by the security firm two months ago.
The trio will be remanded until February 25.
In the 10am incident, three masked men, armed with electric stun guns, fled with RM2.2 million from a security van that was scheduled to ferry money to a bank in Kuala Lumpur.
During the incident, the security guards stopped at a eatery at Jalan 222 to buy lunch.
Suddenly, three men from an MPV stopped near the van and attacked the van driver who was outside of the van.
The van driver was injured during the incident and the robbers fled with the cash.
