KUALA TERENGGANU: The Terengganu government has postponed a popular annual fishing competition scheduled for today and tomorrow in view of the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the country.
The Terengganu State Tourism Department (Tourism Terengganu) announced the postponement of the Terengganu Tenggiri Challenge 4.0 2020 in a media statement today.
The programme has been postponed to a date and time to be announced later, said the statement.
The Terengganu Tenggiri Challenge, which was launched in 2017, gives fishing enthusiasts the opportunity to fish for the tenggiri (Spanish Mackerel) in islands offshore Marang.
This year, the competition was to have been held in Pulau Kekabu.
"In heeding the advice of the National Security Council (MKN), Terengganu, we decided to postpone the programme for the safety of all concerned," said the statement.
Director-General of Health Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah today reported 287 COVID-19 positive cases in the country over the past 24 hours up to noon, the highest number since Malaysia was hit by the pandemic early this year.
Three of these new cases are in Terengganu.
