She said support from various parties is needed to ensure women in the country achieved their full potentials.
A task force will be formed to identify problems faced by single mothers in the country, said Women, Family and Community Development Deputy Minister Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun.
She said the team under her leadership, would sit to study issues faced by single mothers and ways of helping them with their challenges.
"This initiative is part of our continuous effort in empowering women and defending women's rights and privileges especially single mothers in the country," she said at a United Sabah Islamic Association (USIA) dinner, here Saturday night.
She added that to ensure women in the country achieved their full potentials and be at par with other countries, it required the support of various parties.
To this end, she said efforts in targeting 30 per cent of women participate in political affairs and hold senior management positions in the economic sector were still on-going.
To date, only 15 per cent of women in the country were in senior leadership roles in political organisations, associations, NGOs, government and private sectors, she added.
