Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) on Tuesday began repair works and temporary supply disruption at the water treatment plant Sungai Selangor Phase 2, Batang Berjuntai which resulted in unscheduled water supply disruption in the Klang Valley and Selangor.
Syabas Assistant General Manager of Corporate Communications and Public Affairs Department Priscilla Alfred said the implementation of the stopwork order would be for 13 hours beginning 8am until 9pm.
"Resumption of water supply is expected to start at 9pm. As the water disruption involved an extensive area, Syabas activated the Yellow Code of the Emergency Response Plan (ERP) for all the affected areas," she told Bernama, here Tuesday.
She said that Syabas had made preparations to reduce the impact of the supply disruption to consumers by filling up all the storage tanks before the stopwork was implemented.
Several areas that had been listed under the affected areas, particularly the areas located near the water storage and low-lying areas, might not be affected by the supply disruption.
Priscilla said most areas would have their water supply restored within 24 hours after the stopwork had been completed.
"The full resumption of water supply in all the affected areas will be done in stages and will depend on the geographical location. Areas located further away from the source of supply and those located in higher areas will have their supply resumption later," she said.
Syabas expected that hilly areas and those located further away from the water sources especially those areas around Petaling, Kuala Lumpur and Klang/Shah Alam would be the last to have their supply fully restored.
Priscilla said Syabas advised consumers to obtain the latest information on the water supply disruptions from the website http://www.syabas.com.my.
Consumers can lodge complaints or make enquiries through the SYABAS Facebook or Twitter websites by typing 'puspel' or 'puspel syabas'.
Previously, Syabas had stated that the stopwork exercise, which would cause water supply disruption to about one million residents in the Klang Valley and Selangor, aimed to enable upgrading and repair works as well the replacement of major assets such as the switch boxes and water pipes
