A 50-year-old personal assistant to a Datuk has been remanded for five days from today to facilitate investigation into the murder of Miri PKR branch secretary Bill Kayong on June 21.

Deputy Registrar Mohd Hafizi Abdul Halim allowed the remand application by ASP Soliment Nyian at the Miri Magistrate's Court.

Dressed in orange lock-up attire, the suspect, who surrendered at 4.50pm yesterday at the Miri police station, was represented by his counsel David Kuok and appeared calm when the translator explained to him in Chinese the remand application.

Kayong, 43, whose Muslim name was Mohd Hasbie Abdullah, was gunned down in his Toyota Hilux vehicle at about 8.30am on June 21 at a traffic light intersection near the E-Mart supermarket in Jalan Miri-Bintulu, Lutong.
