A technician was ordered to do 200 hours of community service by the Traffic Court, here, today for riding a motorcycle recklessly and performing 'Superman' antics.

Magistrate Maizatul Munirah Abdul Rahman handed down the sentence after Muhammad Firdaruz Miskol, 20, pleaded guilty to committing the offence on the Duta-Ulu Klang Expressway (DUKE), at 4am on March 4, when police were conducting 'Op Samseng Jalan Raya'.

Muhammad Firdaruz was also ordered to pay a deposit of RM4,000 and to complete the community service within two years. His motorcycle riding licence was also revoked and he is not allowed to apply for it for two years.

He was charged under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which provides for imprisonment of up to five years and a fine of not less than RM5,000, driving licence revocation or not be able to apply for one for two years.

Earlier, Muhammad Firdaruz, who was unrepresented, appealed to the court for a minimal fine, as he has to help fend for his family, pay for rent and take care of his grandmother.

However, deputy public prosecutor Siti Hajar Ashif requested for the court to impose a deterrent sentence.
