A Form Five student hurt his left hand after it was pierced by the sharp edge of the grille of his school gate when he tried to climb over it to go home early Wednesday.

In the 11.30am incident, the 18-year-old was with 20 of his friends and tried to leave early by climbing the gate after they failed to get permission from the security guard.

"I failed to clear the gate and fell, causing my hand to be caught in the spear-like grille edge," the student told reporters when met at his home in Rantau Panjang here Thursday.

He had to bear the pain for almost an hour before he saved by Rantau Panjang Fire and Rescue Department personnel.

"The rescuers managed to free my hand and I was the Lati Hospital where I received 30 stitches," he said.
