Omar Bakhtiar says sharing the photo through WhatsApp and Facebook will only instil fear among the public, especially when the photo has nothing to do with an actual case.
The police have urged the public to stop sharing a fake photograph depicting a headless woman who reportedly was a murder victim in Kampung Parit Haji Wahab, Parit Buntar here yesterday.
Kerian police chief, Supt Omar Bakhtiar Yaacob said the action of sharing the fake photograph through WhatsApp application and Facebook would only instil fear among the public.
Nevertheless, he confirmed that an Indonesian man was murdered out of jealousy early Friday morning.
"However, the photograph which went viral, via irresponsible quarters, has nothing to do with the case," he told a press conference here today.
In the 3am incident, Omar Bakhtiar said the 32-year-old construction worker identified as Gumbrek Wibowo was stabbed by his housemate with a sharp object while he was fast asleep at their rented house in Kampung Parit Haji Wahab.
"Based on our investigations, we believe the motive for the murder was jealousy over a woman.
"A post-mortem revealed the victim was killed between six and 12 hours before the autopsy was carried out at the Parit Buntar Hospital," he said, adding that the police arrested four people to facilitate investigations into the murder.
He said the main suspect was still at large.
