The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry is drawing up a standard operating procedure (SOP) for the setting up of kindergartens operating 24 hours a day.
Minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim said the round-the-clock kindergartens were needed by parents working in the health sector such as nurses and doctors as well as those working in the manufacturing industry.
"The proposed 24-hour kindergartens came up following discussions between the ministry and young women professionals such as doctors who feel such childcare centres should be created," she said.
She disclosed this at a media conference after launching the Soroptimist International South West Pacific Conference of Clubs 2014, at the Borneo Convention Centre, Kuching here today.
Also present was Soroptimist South West Pacific Club president, Puan Sri Siew Yong Gnanalingam.
Rohani said following the proposal, the ministry's officials had been directed to draw up the SOP based on the 24-hour kindergarten which was set up by a hospital.
