About 2,000 residents at the Kampung Kolam Flats here want the authorities to solve the problem of an uncovered septic tank which exudes a stink and poses a danger to children.
Resident Bridget William, 39, said the problem had been dragging on since two years ago but complaints to several related agencies had proved futile.
"Initially, there was some work done to unclog the septic tank, but it was left uncovered afterwards, emiting a strong smell of human waste," she said when met by reporters after attending a peaceful demonstration with 30 other residents of the flat, here, today.
Hindon Embong, 56, said she was too embarrassed to invite relatives and friends to her flat because of the bad smell from the tank - which could make one lose one's appetite - and, which worsened at night and after a heavy rain.
Checks by Bernama found the septic tank at the 96-unit flats, which was build 22 years ago, was left open and also posed a danger to children, because the area is easily accessible to children despite, being fenced up.
