A soldier was charged at the Magistrate's Court today with possession of a telephone containing images relating to the Islamic State (IS) militant group.

However, no plea was recorded from Corporal Mohd Azidi Said, 28, of the Armed Forces College here, after the charge was read before Magistrate M. Mageshwary.

Mohd Azidi was charged with possession of a telephone containing the image of the IS flag.

The offence, allegedly committed at the Port Dickson district police headquarters here at about 10.05am last Aug 19, carries for up to seven years or a fine and which forfeits his right over any of the materials involved, upon conviction.

The court set Oct 5 for mention.

The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin.
