Health Ministry today clarified that the Skippy peanut butter sold in the country is not affected by the US recall.
The Skippy peanut butter sold in Malaysia is not the same batch as the one recalled in America, said Health Ministry director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
He said DKSH, the company that imports and distributes Skippy Peanut Butter in Malaysia had confirmed that the contaminated batch of products were not distributed here in the country.
Dr Noor Hisham in a statement today said DKSH had also confirmed that the contaminated batch of the products were only distributed in seven American states.
The seven states are Georgia, Virginia, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, Delaware and Arkansas.
Skippy Reduced Fat Creamy Peanut Butter Spread was recalled in the US over fears that it may contain small pieces of metal shavings.
Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham also said as precautionary step, the ministry will not allow the import of the batch of the contaminated product here.
