DISSAPOINTED:
The Selangor Single Mothers Association has expressed its disappointment over the state government's act in manipulating the issue of RM100 allowance for single mothers as promised in its manifesto for the 2008 general election.
Its chairman, Murtini Kasman, said Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim's statement questioning the votes from the single mothers in the last general election, clearly contradicted the manifesto.
"This is just another manipulation. They promised that if they win, all (single mothers) will be given the allowance, but now they are questioning the women's votes? What for? Isn't each vote supposed to be a secret?
"I don't deny some of the women did not vote for the opposition, but as the ruling government in Selangor, they should give the aid to all eligible women regardless of their votes," she told reporters here today.
Earlier, Murtini, along with 30 members of the association, attended a meeting with Selangor Election Office representatives to get the explanation pertaining the matter.
Prior to this, Abdul Khalid was reported as saying that the single mothers in the state who filed a suit against the state government had to prove in court that they had voted for PAS, DAP or Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) candidates in the 2008 general election to enable them to receive the allowance.
