Security guard claims trial to murder attempt on wife

A security guard claimed trial in the Sessions Court here to attempting to murder his wife two years ago.
N.Premananth, 43, allegedly tried to kill R.Saraswathy, 39, by slashing her neck at a house at No 67, Lorong 15/SS2 Bandar Tasek Mutiara Seberang Perai Selatan near here at 7.30 am on Aug 1, 2012.
The charge, under Section 307 of the Penal Code carries a maximum 10 years' imprisonment and liable to fine, and a maximum of 20 years' imprisonment if the action had resulted in injuries to the victim.
Deputy public prosecutor Maziyah Mansor objected to bail, telling the court that the accused might harass witnesses or abscond.
She said the accused was only arrested on June 29 this year and did not make any attempt to surrender to the police.
However, counsel R.S.N Rayer mitigated that Premananth was still employed and had to support his parents and two children.
"If given bail, he will follow the conditions set by the court. Should there be any complaint by his wife, the court has the discretion to withdraw it," he said.
Judge Meor Sulaiman Ahmad Tarmizi set bail at RM15,000 with one surety, and Aug 22 for re mention.
