A security guard was charged in the Magistrate's Court here today with murdering a Form Five student last month.
No plea was recorded from Tarmizi Yaakob, 20, who was unrepresented, when the charge was read to him before Magistrate Nurulrasyidah Mohd Akit.
He allegedly killed Intan Suraya Mawardi, 17, at a house at Blok 5-1-18 Flat Bandar Baru Perda, Teluk Kumbar near here between 7.30 am and 7.30 pm on October 25.
The charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code carries the mandatory death sentence on conviction.
The court set January 13 for re-mention; the prosecution was represented by deputy public prosecutor Shafiq Mahadi.
In the incident, Intan was found with her throat slit by her father at her family's flat in Teluk Kumbar.
According to Penang CID chief Datuk Zakaria Ahmad, the victim was raped before she was murdered by her boyfriend, who works as a security guard at a school in Bayan Lepas.
Zakaria said the boyfriend who had a drug-related criminal record was detained in Teluk Kumbar about two hours after the student's body was found and he admitted to killing her.
He said the man also brought police to the place where he had discarded the knives which were used to kill the victim, in a hole nearby a substation by the school where he worked.
