Screening of the film 'The New Village' has been postponed pending further review by the Film Censorship Board (LPF).
Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the movie, which is scheduled to hit cinemas in August, needed to be reviewed further in terms of plot and message.
LPF had approved the film for screening last year but there had been complaints in social media and by several non-governmental organisations that it glorified communism, he said.
He told this to reporters after attending a breaking of fast function hosted by the Prisons Department at the Sungai Buloh Prison here tonight.
Newspapers today had also carried a blog report questioning why this film could be approved for screening when the film 'Tanda Putera' on the struggle for Malaysia's independence had been postponed numerous times.
The postponement was reported to be due to complaints on the film's depiction of the May 13 riots in 1969.
