Penang State Health department director Datuk Dr M Sukumaran has confirmed six cases of Rotavirus in the state so far.

The victims are children between the ages of one to eight years old, with five of them being girls. All of them were admitted following vomiting and diarrhea.

Three of the children are still undergoing treatment at Bukit Mertajam Hospital, two at Balik Pulau Hospital while another one is seeking treatment at a private hospital.

Dr Sukumaran said all the children were reported to be in a stable condition.

The first victim was admitted on Sept 27.

Rotavirus is a contagious virus that causes inflammation of the stomach and intestines, and often strikes children under five years of age, with symptoms such as diarrhoea, vomiting, fever and abdominal pain.
