The Kuching Magistrate's Court has extended the remand period of the three suspects in the murder of two British medical students to another seven days to facilitate investigations.
Their remand period ends today.
The remand order, issued by Magistrate Portia Tham Ong Leng to the three suspects aged 29, 23 and 19, will end on Aug 20.
The suspects were earlier remanded for seven days since they were arrested on Aug 6 at about 6am, two hours after the murder of Aidan Brungar, 22, and Nail Delton, 23, at Abell Road, Kuching.
Apart from the three, the police have also arrested two men, aged 35 and 55. The fourth suspect was arrested at about 4.45pm on the day of the incident, while the 55-year-old was arrested a day later.
The 35-year-old’s remand ends tomorrow while the fifth suspect’s remand ends on August 15. Police have requested to extend the remand of the duo.
On Aug 6, the two students from Newcastle University undergoing practical training from June 2014 to Aug 8 at one of the local hospitals in Kuching, were found dead at an entertainment outlet at Jalan Abell, Padungan after getting involved in an argument with a group of men.
They had injuries and stab wounds on their chests and backs.
The victims and suspects are believed to be under the influence of alcohol.
