UMNO Youth today stated they would stand behind party president, Datuk Seri Najib Razak and not stop any party member from joining the ‘red shirt’ rally slated for this Sept 16.
Its chief, Khairy Jamaluddin said Najib’s statement clearly portrayed the party’s stand on the matter.
“I comply with what has been said by the Prime Minister, it represents the party’s stand,” he told a media conference after launching the ‘Garmin MP Step Challenge’ programme at the briefing room of the Parliament here Thursday.
Yesterday, Najib had said UMNO would not encourage or discourage any party members from taking part in the rally.
Speaking after the UMNO Supreme Council meeting at the Putra World Trade Centre, the premier had said Malaysia was a free country and every citizen has his or her right to voice their views and feelings.
News of the rally had been spreading on social media several days ago, however no one has come forward to identify themselves as the official organiser.
The ‘red shirt’ rally is seen as a response to the recently held Bersih 4 rally in the nation’s capital, which was deemed illegal by police.
