Residents within the vicinity of the Putramas 1 condominium in Jalan Kuching here were relieved to learn that a mysterious object spotted on a nearby tree was not an explosive, as suspected earlier.

The object, a box-like item wrapped in black plastic, was first noticed by residents around 5pm before they alerted the authorities.

City Fire and Rescue personnel arrived at the scene first, around 5,30pm, before the case was forwarded to the bomb unit disposal of the Royal Malaysian Police.

City Fire and Rescue senior operations commander, Zakaria Yusuf, said the police have since confirmed that the package did not contain anything suspicious nor dangerous.

“It was just an empty Styrofoam box carefully wrapped in a black plastic bag, nothing to be worried about,” he told reporters at the scene.
