Police will investigate the extreme performance carried out by the Anti Bersih 4.0 group in front of a shopping complex on Tuesday, under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.

Dang Wangi district police chief, ACP Zainol Samah said, investigation papers had been opened on the group the same day the extreme performance was held.

“An investigation paper had been opened on the same day the group had carried out the demonstration (Tuesday) as they had not obtained a permit from the district police chief for the gathering,” he said when contacted by Astro AWANI on Thursday.

The group’s leader, Datuk Jamal Md Yunos together with other organisers of the gathering had also been called to the Dang Wangi police station to assist in investigations.

On Tuesday, the group had carried out an extreme performance in front of the Sogo shopping complex.

The group was seen beating each other with pieces of wood and roof tiles on their backs and head, among others.

They said it was a demonstration to show their readiness in case of any eventuality during the Bersih 4.0 rally scheduled for this weekend.

“If Bersih 4.0 organisers follow through with what they said, which was to have at least 100,000 people attending the illegal gathering, the authorities will definitely have a problem in guaranteeing their safety and also ours.

“We won’t initiate any violence, but if the yellow team does, then our people dressed in red will be able to defend ourselves,” Jamal said as quoted by The Rakyat Post.

Jamal stressed, it was also a silat demonstration to show its members were prepared to defend themselves.

The group, made up of a coalition of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and headed by Jamal, had chosen red for their members while Bersih 4.0 participants will be dressed in yellow.

They will gather around Low Yat Plaza in Bukit Bintang at 9am on Saturday before marching towards Dataran Merdeka via Jalan Pudu at 10am.
