Police have nabbed a 16-year-old boy suspected of being the gang leader of 'Geng Mat Daud' responsible for 34 motorcycle and break-in theft cases here.

District police chief Supt Dr Che Ghazali Che Awang said the teenager who was arrested on Dec 9 has 13 criminal records.

He said the arrest enabled police to track down and rope in 10 more members of the gang aged between 16 and 37.

"Based on investigations, Geng Mat Daud was involved in five cases of motorcycle theft and 29 break-in and theft cases at houses, shops and mosques this year," he told reporters here today.

Che Ghazali said four motorcycles as well as motorcycle frames and auto components worth more than RM20,000 had also been recovered.

"Seven of the suspects tested positive for drugs and they are now under remand for further investigation before being brought to court," he added.
