AMONG the headlines for Thursday, September 9, 2021, Malaysia reported another 19,307 new coronavirus cases, raising the overall total to 1,919,774 since the pandemic started.
Sarawak continues to lead with 3,118 infections, followed by Selangor (2,700) and Sabah (2,298).
Penang saw 2,243 cases, Johor (2,032), Kelantan (1,438), Kedah (1,355), Perak (1,341), Terengganu (910), Pahang (661), Kuala Lumpur (513), Melaka (340), Negri Sembilan (207), Perlis (108), Putrajaya (28) and Labuan (15).
Also, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope has advised people in the state to strictly follow COVID-19 guidelines issued by the government in wake of the Ganesh Chaturthi festival, fearing a spike in infection in large gatherings as seen in other states.
At the country’s financial capital, Mumbai, markets were bustling and streets were crowded as people prepared for the 11-day festival of celebrating the elephant-headed Hindu god Ganesha, which begins on Friday.
