KUALA LUMPUR: The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) today condemned the action of Meta Platforms Inc (Meta) in removing, once again, the post with a photo of the meeting between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Hamas leaders in Doha, Qatar, from Instagram.
The Media and Strategic Communications Division of the PMO, in a post on Facebook today, said that the action clearly demonstrated discrimination against the situation in Palestine and its leaders.
"As such, we demand an explanation regarding this matter, and we urge Meta to apologise," said the statement, which the Prime Minister also shared.
The Prime Minister had, on May 14, posted on his social media a photo of his meeting with Hamas leaders, including Ismail Haniyeh, but Meta took it down soon after.
The action was strongly condemned, which prompted Meta to re-upload the post.
The PMO also uploaded a screenshot of Anwar's official Instagram page, showing the notice of removal of the post yesterday.
In the post, Anwar, among other things, expressed his condolences for the passing of Ismail's family members who were killed in the brutal bombing of the Zionist regime, saying that he also received the latest briefing from the Hamas leaders on the situation in Gaza and Rafah.
He said Malaysia will also continue to commit to playing its role at the international level to stop the attack on Rafah including mobilizing more efforts to help victims of the war in Gaza, especially in terms of humanitarian aid, medicine and education.
The Prime Minister also stated in the post that Malaysia appreciates the willingness of Hamas to release prisoners, especially children and women, and to accept the peace plan of the Arab world, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and the international community.
Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh was killed in Tehran, Iran, along with one of his bodyguards earlier today.
