GEORGE TOWN: The Penang government hopes that the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) can expedite the implementation of 'Safe@Work' standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the people's safety and health.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said this was because COVID-19 infections involving the manufacturing sector which has recorded the highest number of clusters, have begun to spread to schools, due to the parents who are working in factories.
"The state government urges the Ministry of Health and the National Security Council (MKN) to review the risk assessment of the current situation," he said in a statement here today.
Chow also hoped that the government could speed up the vaccination process within the manufacturing sector in the state.
At the same time, he said strict enforcement should be conducted not only against individuals but also factories that fail to comply with the SOPs, especially those that recorded recurring cases.
