KANGAR:Persatuan Melayu Negeri Perlis (PEMANIS) has urged all Malay-based political parties in the country to unite for the sake of the religion, race and nation.

Its president, Datuk Mohd  Zain Hamzah said as the country battles against the COVID-19 and floods, this is not the time for politicians to fight with one another.

“We should be ashamed of ourselves because other races in this country, instead of squabbling like the Malays do in politics, will concentrate on surviving through this tough times,” he told Bernama here recently.

Mohd Zain added the people can now evaluate the true leaders who are the champions of the people and nation, and who are those merely pursuing their personal political self interests.

He also expressed disappointment as the constant politicking had disrupted the government’s efforts in focusing on the people’s welfare as they are being faced with COVID-19, the floods and economic pressure.

“If we really love our country, continue to support the government instead of demanding for the prime minister’s resignation, because with the current scenario, whoever holds the position cannot guarantee that all the problem could be addressed immediately,” he said.

As such, he called on all politicians to wake up, as their irresponsible actions or statements would only raise the ire of the people and not raise them as heroes.
