Parents should make an effort to be close to schools and work together to produce individuals of excellence, the Raja Muda of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail said Saturday.

He said that as the people who would continue the legacy of the national struggle, students were the most important assets to whom parents must give their attention.

"I hope parents will give their commitment and support by becoming involved in school activities which will produce individuals of excellence, as well as sacrifice money, time and energy towards that aim.

"As such, the people must always be close to (their children), be aware of their development and monitor them," Tuanku Syed Faizuddin said at the launch of the Gotong Royong Perdana Lestari Alam Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tuanku Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil here Saturday.

Also present were the Raja Puan Muda of Perlis Tuanku Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil and Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man.

Tuanku Syed Faizuddin also said parents should show good behaviour, motivate and pray that their children find it easy to study.

As part of the programme, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin who was accompanied by 50 participants comprising the heads of state and federal departments, cycled 16 kilometres for the benefit of six destitute families under the 'MAIPS Cares' cycling tour to trace destitute families in the state.

Meanwhile, Tuanku Hajah Lailatul Shahreen visited the stalls and campsite, canteen (the recipient of the best canteen Perdana Award), the schools' co-curricular centre, documentation room and resource centre.

She lauded the school for its "Garden in School' concept which added to the greenery.
