More than 200 individuals infected with COVID-19 have been successfully detected through the MySejahtera application since its launched last April.
According to the chief executive of National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA), Ir. Md Shah Nuri Md Zain, the number has decreased after the virus has become less prevalent in the country lately.
“When it was first launched in April, the MySejahtera app has identified over 200 COVID-19 positive users.
"All of them were identified from early April to the end of the month and have been declining lately," he told Astro AWANI in the Morning AWANI program through the People's Reality segment on Thursday.
Meanwhile, 180,000 premises have used the application for the 'check-in' module to facilitate close contact if COVID-19 positive.
Md Shah said the application was initially developed at the request of the Ministry of Health (MOH) to identify individuals at risk of COVID-19.
"Because at that time many people came to clinics and hospitals for examination and through this application they did not have to go to hospitals and clinics as they could be evaluated through this application.
“At the same time, it can reduce the burden on the government in providing medical staff to examine the public.
"However, the application has expanded its module for tracking close contacts on the premises that users visit upon entering the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) and the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) which allows for public movement," he said.
At the same time, Md Shah does not deny that there were many unscrupulous attempts to illegally enter the user data of MySejahtera application.
However, he insisted that this was not the case because the application had a strong security layer handled by several expert groups.
“In the development of this application we have a specific team, one development team and another team over the security level and this is constantly being evaluated.
“All tests are conducted continuously in the development of this application, for example a team from the Management Unit, Management Planning Malaysia (MAMPU) that focuses on development while NACSA focuses on safety while MOH is looking at usage.
"All of this data is stored securely in MOH with multi-layer control measures," he added.
