Padang Serai MP, N. Surendran today demanded the government to give them equal airtime to appear on Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) so that the people can receive ‘unbiased’ information.
The PKR Vice President said publicity issue in the country should be solved immediately considering that RTM has been the main medium of information for Malaysias.
“It is wrong for RTM to give airtime only to the ruling government or Barisan Nasional (BN) because it is an abuse of people’s facility,” he told reporters at a press conference at the Parliamentary lobby on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Surendran also slammed Communication and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek for ‘misleading’ the Dewan Rakyat regarding the latter’s statement about RTM’s credibility.
Surendran accused Shabery for providing a ‘confusing’ answer when he allegedly said that RTM was unbiased.
“Any media here know that it’s totally untrue. We all know that RTM is biased toward Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders and the government. It’s a known fact completely undeniable,” he claimed.
He also called for Standing Order 36 (12) so that Shabery would refered to the Parliamentary rights and privilege committee.
He said if Shabery is refered to the committee, disciplinary will be taken against him depending on the Speaker’s decision.
