KUALA LUMPUR: The flood situation in the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia has improved this evening with the number of evacuees in temporary flood evacuation centres dropping to 1,748 from over 2,000 this morning.
In TERENGGANU, the number of flood evacuees has dropped to 837 individuals from 215 families as of 4 pm compared to 1,218 evacuees from 321 families at 8 am.
State Disaster Management Committee secretariat chief Lt Col (PA) Che Adam A Rahman said 10 centres have been closed in stages since this morning, bringing the total centres still open to eight in Dungun and three in Kemaman.
"In Kemaman, the situation is improving, with a drop in evacuees from 657 individuals from 160 families compared to 766 evacuees from 197 families this morning,” he told reporters today.
Meanwhile, the Irrigation and Drainage Department reported on its portal http://infobanjir.water.gov.my that no river has recorded water levels above the danger level as of 4 pm today.
In KELANTAN, only 911 evacuees from 342 families remain in 11 centres in Pasir Mas compared to 1,094 evacuees in the morning.
According to the Social Welfare Department Disaster Info app, out of that total, 134 evacuees from 45 families are currently housed in the centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Kubang Kual, SK Tok Deh (118), Putat Tujoh (42), SK Gual Tinggi (154), SK Kg Rahmat (14) and SK Sri Rantau Panjang 2 (201).
In addition, the centre at Dewan Rukun Tetangga Lubuk Stol (7), SK Sri Kiambang (33), SK Bakong (85), SK Kedai Tanjong (110), while Sekolah Menengah Agama (Arab) Kg Bongor is housing 13 evacuees.
In addition, two centres, one in Tanah Merah and Kuala Krai each, have been closed.
According to a report on infobanjir.water.gov.my, Sungai Golok in Rantau Panjang continues to record a water level reading of 10,12 metres (m), which is above the danger level of 9 m, while Sungai Golok in Kampung Jambu, Tumpat recorded a water level of 2.48, above the warning level of 2.15 m, as of 5 pm today.
