Police are still investigating whether the incident that happened in Kampung Kembara Sakti last night has anything to do with the Sulu terrorists.

Sabah Deputy Commissioner of Police Datuk Kok Lian confirmed the incident on Friday but denied any events of shooting taking place.

“A house caught fire... we suspect (it happened) out of negligence. We are still investigating,” he told reporters during a press conference in Lahad Datu.

Tan declined to confirmed if the incident has any links to the Sulu intruders. However, he added that, based on the information available, the police found no connections with the terrorists.

“No indications so far. There's no connection. Nevertheless, we are investigating it,” he said.

Besides that, Tan has also informed that security forces are being stationed at the scene to reassure the people there of the area’s safety.

He also urged the people to not give in to rumours and advised them to not be too afraid as things are still under control.

Meanwhile, Tan said the National Security Council (MKN) is conducting a damage assessment to estimate the amount of loss faced by victims. This is to see whether the victims can be compensated or not.

On the development of Lahad Datu, Tan said the situation is under control and safe.

The police also confirmed that there were no security officers injured or dead within these 24 hours.
