The Islamic Development Department of Malaysia (Jakim) has never issued text for Friday sermons containing calls for Muslims to be hostile towards Christians in the country, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom said the texts for Friday sermons were carefully prepared so as not to jeopardise the unity that existed among the people of various religions in the country.

"Islam has never been hostile to other religious teachings. We understand what is enshrined in the constitution that Islam is the official religion, but people of other religions are free to practice theirs, " he said in response to a supplementary question from Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham (DAP-Beruas).

Ngeh wanted to know the reliability of a report in a portal which claimed that that the text of the Friday sermon issued by Jakim on Aug 30 labelled Christians as enemies of Islam.
