Government-linked companies (GLCs) and government-owned companies through the Minister of Finance Incorporated (MOF Inc) do not provide annual funds specifically for contributions to politicians or political parties.
The Ministry of Finance clarified that if there was an application for contribution from the parties concerned, it would be treated like any other requests for donation from other non-governmental organisations and would be entertained depending on the urgency and availability funds.
According to the ministry, the amount of contribution each year depended on the number of applications received and the companies' available funds under their CSR budget.
"The contributions channeled to politicians or political parties are to finance the implementation of specific projects, such as assistance to flood victims, schools' sport activities, aid to orphans, single mothers and people with disabilities (OKU)," the ministry said in a written reply circulated in the Dewan Rakyat today.
This was in answer to a question raised by Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim (INDEPENDENT–Bandar Tun Razak) who wanted to know the amount GLCs had contributed to politicians or political parties from 1981 to 2014.
