There were tears and intense emotion from the crowd when limbless motivational speaker Nick Vujicic spoke at Sunway University yesterday.

Among those touched by his inspiring stories of hope was wheelchair bound Daniel Lee, 21, who also aspires to be an evangelical speaker just like Vujicic.

Lee said he was here to learn from Vujicic on how he inspires others.

“I wanted to know how he could be so genuine, it is something I try very hard on stage... how could this man tell everyone he loves them?” Lee told Astro Awani.

Perhaps Lee found his answers when Vujicic encouraged him on his endeavor and simply said “I love you.”

“He looked me straight into the eye and I knew he was telling us from his heart,” said Lee, who suffers from brittle bones and stopped walking since he was two years old.

Student John Paul Felix, 18 stood up during the Q & A session to ask Vujicic how does one block off negativity in life.

“I think he meant that it was not possible to stop negativity but it was possible for us to take it in, and rise up against it.”

“He also taught me that we should not let things around us get the best of us. We should celebrate who we are,” he said, describing Vujicic as someone who was “always giving”.

A levels student, Chien Ling, 18 said that a statement on parents by Vujicic seemed to ring true in her life.

“He said sometimes parents are seldom proud of us and only look at whatever we did wrong. That happens.

“I guess his story inspires us to just believe in ourselves and we must be grateful for what we have.

Tan Jun Yee, an 18-year-old student said the most important lesson he learnt today was that it was not important what society thinks of you.

“His story shows us that there is a purpose in life, we were not made to just die.”
