The police have confirmed that a viral post on Facebook of a 22-year-old allegedly kidnapped by a syndicate to sell of his organs as a hoax.

Following this, the 'victim's' father withdrew the police report he made on June 30, Kajang Police Chief, ACP Ab Rashid Abdul Wahab said.

"We showed the father the recorded CCTV footage from the 'crime scene' at the Petronas station in Putra Mahkota, and the incident never happened.

"What really happened was, the 'victim' first parked his car but later moved his vehicle elsewhere before exiting the premises while carrying a bag," Ab Rashid said.

He, however, verified that the man was indeed later found in Bentong, as posted on Facebook.

"Yes, he was found in Bentong but we are still investigating how he had ended up there."

The man was then sent to the Islam Az-Zahrah Hospital in Bandar Baru Bangi for further checkup. The doctor there confirmed that there were no injuries found on his body.

"His father also said that his son has a personal problem. After viewing the CCTV footage, the father withdrew the report he made earlier," said Ab Rashid.

Last Monday, the social media was abuzz with news of a man being apparently kidnapped by three unknown men.

The Facebook post that was shared by the man's cousin claimed that an unknown man had approached the 'victim' to ask for some help. Upon helping the man, the 'victim' was then pushed into a van. The 'victim' was said to be tied up and unconscious.

Upon regaining consciousness, the so-called victim found himself in Bentong and rushed to the nearby fire station to contact his uncle and the police.

The Facebook post also said it was possible that the 'victim' was to be brought to Thailand to have his organs sold off by a syndicate.

When contacted by Astro AWANI, the cousin could not comment on the incident further.

"I'm sorry. I can't comment further. I was told by the police to not say anything because this case is still under investigation," he said.

However, in his Facebook post, he said: "My cousin was traumatised by this incident and is unable to share what really happened to him."

The Facebook post on the alleged kidnapping had received more than 2,000 shares but it was deleted by the cousin a few hours after he was contacted by Astro AWANI yesterday.

The post, however, has already made its way to several other social media sites.
