Netizens across Asia today share photos of the mesmerising view of the solar eclipse on social media.

The phenomenon, which occurs whenever the moon moves directly between the earth and sun, began at 6.40am Wednesday.

Areas in Sumatera, Borneo and the Pacific Ocean witnessed a total eclipse or umbra.

Malaysians, however, only managed to experience the penumbra (partial eclipse) which covers about 70 to 90 percent of the sun's entire surface.
