KUALA LUMPUR: National high jumper Nauraj Singh, who competed at the 2016 Rio Olympics, is among 24 participants who will attend the World Athletics Level 1 Coaches Education and Certification System (CECS) virtual course organised by the Perak Athletic Association (Perak AA) from Aug 4-16.

The Perak AA said in a statement that the course was fully sanctioned by the World Athletics (WA), which would also monitor it.

It will be conducted by two WA-selected senior lecturers, namely S. Anbarasu of Malaysia and Roselyn Hamero from the Philippines.

The Perak AA said the course was part of their move to align their focus on grassroots development aimed mainly towards the Malaysia Games (Sukma) in 2023 and onwards.

"We also intend to promote a larger circle of young and vibrant coaches in Perak to be stationed at the various centres throughout the state.

"We are indeed thankful to the Perak State Education Department for fulling supporting us in ensuring the success of this course by encouraging teachers to participate," added the statement.

All participants, including Nauraj who is representing the Malaysian Armed Forces, who meet the passing mark set by the WA, will receive the WA CECS Level 1 Coaching Certificate.
