Najib to walk down memory lane when officiating Razak Science Centre

Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak will walk down memory lane when he visits his former college – Malvern College at Worcestershire – to officiate the Razak Science Centre there on Monday (Monday in Malaysia).

Malaysian High Commissioner to United Kingdom Datuk Ahmad Rasidi Hazizi said the prime minister pursued his secondary level at the college from 1968 to 1971.

“Being an old Malvernian, the prime minister has a soft spot for the college,” he told Malaysian media, here, today.

Apart from Najib, his younger brother Datuk Johari also studied there.

The college is a co-educational boarding and day school founded in 1865, one of the UK’s leading independent schools.

“Malvern College is very proud of the achievement of one of its former pupils in becoming the Prime Minister of Malaysia and to be able to count such a distinguished personality as one of its Alumni,” said Ahmad Rasidi.

He said the prime minister was given the honour to officiate the science centre named after him (in western culture, Najib is known as Mr Razak then).

The centre consists of 18 state-of-the-art laboratories, including a showcase laboratory and extra prep rooms.

Worcestershire is about two-and-a-half-hour drive from here and Najib is scheduled to take the road to his former college on Monday.

Najib is expected to arrive here late Saturday (Sunday in Malaysia) from Riyadh after attending the funeral of King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia who passed away on Friday.

The prime minister had earlier cut short his trip to the World Economic Forum in Davos following the death of the Saudi Arabian monarch.
