Datuk Seri Najib Razak has expressed his sympathies to the government and people of India, especially to those affected by the flood situation in Chennai.

The prime minister said efforts were being made to account for all Malaysians in the flood zone.

"Malaysia is working closely with the government of India to account for all Malaysians there," he said on his Facebook account.

He said Malaysians affected by the flooding should try to contact the Malaysian consulate-general.

"For further enquiries or assistance, especially Malaysians who are affected by the flood in Chennai, please contact the consulate-general's flood crisis operation room, at +91-44-2433-4434 / 35 / 36," he said.

It was reported that more than 90 Malaysian tourists and students were still stranded in their hotel rooms and homes in flood-battered Chennai in the southern state of Tamil Nadu.

At least 280 people have been reported killed.
