Najib congratulates IIUM debate team

A debate team from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) has won praise from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak after they won the Inter-varsity Debating Championship (Cambridge IV) held at the University of Cambridge, England on Sunday.
Najib said the list of opponents were a force to be reckoned with as the IIUM debaters had defeated teams from the University of Oxford and the likes.
"Congratulations UIA Malaysia! #SoaringUpwards," he said in his Twitter account today.
IIUM in a statement said the debate team comprised Law student Ameera Natasha Moore, 23, and Economics student Mubarrat Wassey, 25.
Mubarrat emerged as the overall best speaker of the tournament.
The debate championship, held from Nov 18 to 19, saw participation from 100 teams from around the globe including Harvard University, Durham University and King's College, London. -- Bernama
